An eye for an eye?

I initially wanted to blog about my trip to Vietnam today. But as I was having dinner watching the CNN news on my tv, I can’t help but to blog about the UN tribunal that starts today towards the atrosities and inhuman acts commited to the Cambodian people during the Khmer Rouge years.  The Cambodia genocide tribunal begins today towards the 5 (heard from the news) Khmer Rouge leaders.

Whilst eating my dinner and interested in the news after my backpacking trip to Cambodia, hearing the name ‘Duch’ got more of my attention. That ‘nickname’ which I clearly remember was the leader of ‘Tuol-Sleng’ also known as S-21 which was the torture prison which many if not ALL the prisoners are doomed to death.

CNN then shown a short clip of an elderly man which was one of the lucky few prisoners to actually live, tell his sorrow tale. Then it got me thinking… it has been so many years since the genocide (1970s), shouldn’t these people be ALREADY be trialled and punished already? To make things worst is to hear that the trials would be on-going till 2010!!!

Putting that aside… the main question here is should death be a verdict of these trial??? ’An eye for an eye…’

*Please note that in Cambodia, an estimated 2 million innocent Cambodian died during the Khmer Rouge regime. This ‘person’ would need many ‘eyes’ just to be even.

It's all about the Benjamins...
